Super-durable socks
#Why say these are the strongest socks on the market?
To confirm that a sock is strong, we looked for a neutral, indisputable standard that would enable us to compare the resistance of several socks against each other. To do this, we used the benchmark abrasion test: the Martindale test.
The machine applies friction and calculates the number of turns until the thread breaks. The result is the "Martindale" index, expressed in number of turns. Following tests carried out in a laboratory in Switzerland, our super-durable socks and knee-highs achieved the best results among a sample of 15 pairs of top brands, with a resistance of almost 49,000 turns. This result cannot be converted into a number of steps, but corresponds to very intensive use of a fabric.
These socks are available in cotton lisle yarn or wool. They are made from Scottish yarn or thicker wool, polyamide (the material used to make boat mooring ropes) and elastane, to give the sock a cleaner feel when worn.
# When to wear them
For socks made from Scottish yarn, this composition means they can be worn every day. Scottish yarn and elastane give these socks a slim fit, so they hug the ankle perfectly. This is a range to be worn both in a professional environment and in town. The ribbing adds a chic touch.
As for the super-solid wool socks and knee-highs, they're perfect as soon as temperatures start to cool. This range can also be worn with dress shoes.
# When not to wear them?
Super-solid socks, made from 72% mercerized cotton, have no particular virtue for warmth. So when it's very cold, they're not the most appropriate model. In hot weather, over 35°, these socks are not recommended.
