Part of Gammarelli’s famous range of papal socks, these red pairs are often thought to be worn by the Pope himself. However, this is not the case, since the Pope wears Gammarelli’s special white socks while this striking shade of red is reserved for the cardinals! It's hard not to admire the fine workmanship that goes into these knee-high socks which are knit in Italy from 100% cotton lisle, a high-quality and very light Egyptian cotton. Reinforced at the toe and heel, these seamless socks have been knit loop by loop for extra comfort and a smooth finish.
Knee-high socks have two main advantages: they won’t slip down, and they cover the entirety of your leg, creating the perfect transition between your trousers and shoes without showing any skin!

1- Knee-High Socks
Height: these socks are quite long, reaching just below the knee.
Advantages: they offer more support and cover the entire shin. Their height is suitable to be worn with suit trousers.
2- Mid-Calf Socks
Height: mid-calf socks are shorter socks that reach the middle of the calf.
Advantages: they are ideal for people who wear tight-fitting trousers.
3- No-Show Socks
Height: these socks are very short, meant to stay hidden inside of the shoe. We offer different models for different shoes.
Advantage: the no-show socks are invisible in the trainers or moccasins but still protect your feet and shoes.
For socks made from vegetal fibres:
Cotton lisle, Cotton & Linen:
- Washing: by hand or in the washing machine, preferably cold (30 or 40° maximum) with a spin cycle between 600 and 1000 rpm).
- Wash the socks inside out and in a wash bag to avoid lint and preserve the colours.
- Tumble dry and ironing: strongly discouraged.
- Drying on a flat surface recommended to preserve the quality of the fibres and the natural shape of the socks.
Cotton Sea Island & Silk :
- Washing: by hand (recommended) or in washing machine (cold 30°, with a spin cycle of 600 rpm maximum).
- Wash the socks inside out and in a wash bag to avoid lint and preserve the colours.
- Tumble dry and ironing: strongly discouraged.
- Drying on a flat surface recommended to preserve the quality of the fibres and the natural shape of the socks.
For socks made of animal fibres:
Wool merinos, cashmere, vicuna, camel hair :
- Washing: by hand (recommended) or in washing machine (cold 30°, with a spin cycle of 600 rpm maximum).
- Wash the socks inside out and in a wash bag to avoid lint and preserve the colours.
- Tumble dry and ironing: strongly discouraged.
- Drying on a flat surface recommended.
N.B.: when washing for the first time, it is advisable not to mix light and dark coloured socks.
