# Where does the vicuña come from?

The vicuña, known for its thick fawn-colored fleece, lives in the Andes Mountains in South America. Very close to the llama, the vicuña is a rare, protected animal, slender and elegant.

# Why sell vicuña socks?

Vicuña is a very rare material because of its infinite softness. To give you an idea, vicuña shearing produces 4 to 6 tons of fiber per year, which is very little, hence the difficulty in obtaining it.

Vicuña hair is sought after for:

  • its insulating properties: vicuña fibers trap air bubbles and insulate against the cold;
  • its fineness: vicuña is the finest fiber after silk.

Vicuña socks therefore combine softness, warmth, and fineness like no other material! To be cared for carefully – hand wash only.
