This fascinating animal lives at high altitude and develops down that protects it from the freezing cold of the high plateaus. The yak is found in all the countries of the Himalayan range as well as in Central Asia. This animal, which can weigh up to a ton, produces between 300 and 500 grams of premium quality wool. The diameter of yak wool fibers ranges between 15 and 20 microns. The thickness-to-wool ratio is excellent; however, the softness of these yak socks is more robust than that of alpine wool or cashmere.
